The petrol version of the Grand i10 is a 1.2-litre Kappa Dual VTVT (variable timing valve train) based petrol mill, which can displace about 1197cc. The engine can generate a maximum power of about 82bhp at 6000rpm, while yielding a 114Nm of peak torque at 4000rpm. It comes with both a five-speed manual transmission gearbox and 4-speed automatic. The diesel variant is a new 1.1-litre U2 CRDi mill, which is being manufactured at company's Chennai based plant. This engine displaces 1120cc along with a peak power output of 70bhp at 4000rpm in combination with a maximum torque yield of 160Nm at 1500 to 2750rpm.

Braking and handling
The car comes with the conventional disc and drum braking system. While the front wheels have disc brakes, the rear wheels come with drum brakes. The top end variant has the most advanced anti lock braking system. In addition, the suspension system of the car is well balanced and sturdy. The front axle is assembled with a McPherson Strut type of suspension, while its rear axle gets a
couple torsion beam axle type of a suspension system. This keeps occupants at the rear seatsafe and comfortable.
