How to Keep your Car Set Comfortable and Clean
A comfortable and
clean set of car seats are essential if one intends to drive
comfortably. Here are some tips on how to maintain them....
Your seats are what connect
you to your car. Most drivers, especially in India have no idea on how
to position their seats for an ideal driving position. That said, a set
of dirty seats, is not only a put off for your passengers but can also
lead to one getting lower resale value when you want to sell you car.
Here are some tips that can help you bring the shine back in your car’s
seats.
Do not eat or drink in your car
Spilling a can of cola or a
dollop of ketchup is a sure shot way of ruining your car’s interiors.
As with most things in life, the best way to avoid this is by not eating
or drinking in your car. Although most people would find this
unreasonable, not eating in your car can also help you in many other
ways. For example, crumbs falling off your favourite sandwich can
attract both rodents and insects like ants and cockroaches, which can in
turn lead to more headaches in the long term.
Use foam based cleaner to clean stains
Using heavy detergents on
your fabric seats will most probably end up ruining them. The best thing
one can do is used a speciality foam based cleaner to clean the seats.
Spray the dirty spot on the seats with the cleaner and rub vigorously
for a minute or two till the stain disappears. Wipe the spot thoroughly
with a clean and dry soft cloth till the surface feels dry. You can
clean your whole car’s upholstery the same way, area by area till you
get satisfactory results. If you don’t have access to foam based
speciality cleaners, a spoonful of mild detergent mixed with warm water
can also give satisfactory results. Remember to always squeeze out as
much water from the cloth as possible before starting the cleaning
process.
Leather is more delicate than fabric
Although a leather interior
may look clean and crisp when new and clean, a neglected leather
interior looks (and smells) nasty. Leather though is much more delicate
than fabric and needs special care. It is best to use a good product
specially formulated for cleaning leather seats. Some leather care
products make the leather more shiny or slippery. Other products can
make it sticky or tacky, so before using it, test a product in a small
area to see if you like it. Don't use paper towels on leather, they can
leave scratches; use a soft clean cotton towel instead. Start with
vacuuming leather seat crevices with the soft brush attachment, but be
careful, as the vacuum hose can easily scratch the leather. Spray some
leather cleaner agent on the soft clean cotton towel and wipe the seat
gently, reaching into crevices and around the edges.
Leather wrapped steering wheels and gear
knobs should never be cleaned with the same agent used to clean seats,
as they can get slippery or sticky. The best thing to do is to clean
them with a slightly damp soft cloth thoroughly to remove any dust, dirt
or fungal growth from them.

Hyundai showcases new engines, gearboxes at Auto Expo 2016
The carmaker displays 1.0-litre and 1.4-litre turbo-petrol motors; gearboxes includes a seven-speed DCT and lighter eight-speed automatic.
Apart from showcasing models such as the new Tucson,
the Genesis sedan and the Carlino compact SUV concept at its pavilion,
Hyundai also showcased a new family of downsized turbo-petrol engines
along side its newly developed automatic gearboxes from its
international model range.
The first of the new
engines on display was a 1.0-litre T-GDi turbo-petrol motor based on the
Kappa engine from the Eon hatchback. Featured in the European-spec i20,
the engine features direct fuel injection technology along with a
single-scroll turbocharger to develop around 98bhp and 17.49kgm of
torque. A more powerful 118bhp version is also available with torque
remaining unchanged.
Another engine on display was a 1.4-litre
T-GDi turbo-petrol unit. The motor, features a high-pressure
single-scroll turbocharger integrated within the exhaust manifold to
provide better response times and low end torque. The new engine is also
lighter than the old 1.4-litre Gamma series engine it replaces and
develops 138bhp and 24.68kgm of torque. Featured internationally in the
US-spec Elantra, the new engine is expected to head to India under the
hood of the upcoming new Tucson.
Hyundai also showcased two automatic
gearboxes. The first of the two was a new seven-speed dual-clutch
automatic gearbox. The seven-speed unit is said to provide better fuel
efficiency along with reducing engine emissions while also improving
gear shift times over the older six-speed automatic unit.
Also on display was a new eight-speed
automatic gearbox developed for the company’s offering in the large and
luxury segments. Developed for a front-wheel drive drivetrain, the new
gearbox is lighter than its six-speed predecessor along with being more
fuel efficient.
Hyundai also showcased models from its international portfolio, including models like the Hyundai Genesis and the i30 hatchback.

Hyundai India registers 9.3% domestic growth in Jan - exports fall sharply
The Korean carmaker registered a strong sale of 38,016 units in India while the export numbers dipped by a sweeping 37.9 per cent.
Riding on the back of the success of its best-seller
Elite i20 and the compact SUV Creta, Hyundai has posted a 9.3 per cent
y-o-y domestic growth for the month of January. While the sales for
Hyundai India have gone up in the first month of the year, the
cumulative figures for the Korean manufacturer have gone down as a
result of the y-o-y deficiency in its exports.
The largest passenger car
exporter in India registered domestic sales of 38,016 units in January
2016 as compared to 34,780 units sold in January 2015. However, there is
a stark contrast in the export figures from last year with a drastic
37.9 per cent fall from 10,003 to 6,214 units this year. The fall in
exports clearly affected the cumulative figures that witnessed a slight
negative of 1.2 per cent. The overall figures for Hyundai in India for
January stood at 44,230 against 44,783 units sold by the company last
year.
The downfall in exports was a result of the
production challenges being faced by the Chennai plant of the Korean
automaker. The impact of the floods is yet to fade away while the
production capacity of the plant is also unable to meet global demands.
The manufacturer is set to expand its production facilities in India to
cease the fall in its numbers.
With the Auto Expo also approaching,
speculations are also rife about the new cars that Hyundai could roll
out for India. The Tucson will definitely be a headline grabber while an
MPV might also be on the cards.
Commenting on the January figures, Rakesh
Srivastava, Sr. Vice President Sales and Marketing, Hyundai Motor India
Ltd., said, “Hyundai started the year with a positive note registering
the domestic volume of 38,016 units with a growth of 9.3% over last
year. The growth momentum of last year continued built by strong
performance of products like Grand, Creta & i20 Elite/Active.”
We look forward to presenting the Hyundai Experience
at the Auto Expo through our products & technology towards meeting
the growing aspirations of the Customers,” he added.

Hyundai Creta Conforts
FORGET FOR A MOMENT URBAN dictionary's definition of this car's name and concentrate instead on what we have here. This is the new Hyundai CRETA now available in showrooms. The CRETA is a very well equipped compact SUV that gives buyers a whole host of engines and transmissions and six trim levels to choose from. It shares its engines with the Verna - there's a 16-litre petrol and two diesels - 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre, the latter will be available with an optional six-speed automatic transmission. Prices start from approximately 9.1 lakh for the base petrol to 14.5 lakh for the top-end diesel automatic.
The CRETA looks quite handsome and that's probably why Hyundai already has around 10,000 customers who have put a deposit on the Creta. Unlike a few other compact SUV's that can be mistaken for hatchbacks, the CRETA is unmistakably an SUV. Its upright stance, Santa Fe-like nose and clean styling see to that. What's noticeable is the long wheelbase-2590 mm-and it is something that frees up a lot of space inside. The rear seat is truly spacious with exceptional knee room and great. The clean design of the exteriors follows through on the insides as well - the dashboard is uncluttered and the top-end SX (O) variant we drove comes with a pleasing beige and black theme and neat fit and finish.
The SX(O) comes with
pushbutton start and when you thumb it, the 1.6-litre diesel comes alive
and settles into a smooth, quiet idle. Hyundai says a lot of work went
into cutting down cabin noise - there's extra sound insulation in the
dashboard and fenders, anti-noise pads on the floor and a special sound
deadening coating on the under body. Even the garnish on the A-pillar
has been designed to cut down wind noise and all of this leads to a
reasonably silent cabin on the move.
The 126bhp diesel engine
from the Verna has some lag and its 260Nm of torque fully kicks in only
by 1900rpm. But, the light clutch and slick gearshift won't make you
complain about rowing through the six-speed manual to get around this.
It feels more than peppy on boost and there is decent power when you're
off-boost as well.
The other transmission we
drove, the six-speed automatic, helps disguise some of the engine's lag,
power delivery feels quite linear and gearshifts are quite smooth as
well. It doesn't like to down shift in a hurry though.
Test tracks are generally smooth and it's
hard to judge the ride quality, so we will reserve our judgment on that
for later but what is evident is that the CRETA feels stable at speed
and when you do throw it around, the ESP cuts in to prevent things from
getting out of hand. The steering is typical Hyundai - numb, but
reasonably well weighted - and body control is good although there is
some roll when you corner it hard.
Also typically Hyundai is
the equipment list - this SX(O) comes with Power Windows, Power
steering, Airconright, Remote locking, Central lockin, Leather seats,
MP3, Leather seats, etc. While SX+ comes with auto headlamps, Bluetooth
connectivity, climate control, a rear view camera, navigation system,
rear air-con vents, steering-mounted audio and telephonic controls and
leather upholstery. The lower SX variant gets smaller 16-inch rims
instead of the 17-inchers and only two airbags instead of the full six.
Speaking of which, Hyundai is particularly
proud of the Creta's safety structure. Five cross members on the roof
and a dual underbody load path for the crash structure lends rigidity to
the body and it also has additional front fender and rear quarter
reinforcements. Overall, the CRETA comes across as a very well-rounded
package over a broad price band. It's safe to say that it will do well
in India.
rips, avoiding excessive idling and removing unnecessary items
from the trunk are also easy ways to lower fuel consumption.
